Archimandrite Vasileios, Abbot of Iveron Monastery, Mount Athos
Translated from the Greek by Dr. Elizabeth Theokritoff

Number Six of Series: “Mount Athos”

“As priests and as people living in the Orthodox Church, when we hear about saints we automatically call to mind a sacred moment in the Divine Liturgy, just before Holy Communion, when the priest exclaims: ‘The holy things are for the holy.’ Then we are at a loss and feel that none of us is holy, a saint, and for this reason we reply through the voice of the choir: ‘One is holy, one is Lord, Jesus Christ, to the glory of God the Father. Amen.’ And it is precisely because this one saint, this one Lord exists that we can hope, that we are able to stand. And we see that this One Saint is the source of all holiness and goodness, and this Saint is Jesus Christ, He is the Son of God: this Saint is God.”
