Translated from the Greek

A volume of The Great Synaxaristes of the Orthodox Church

“Pascha, the great and holy, is celebrated today, august fathers and beloved brethren. The word Pascha (diavasis in Greek) means passing over. ‘The Jews kept the Feast of Passover,’ notes Saint Gregory Palamas, ‘as laid down in their law, in the crossing from Egypt to the land of Palestine. We celebrate the evangelic Pascha, the passage of our human nature in Christ from death to life, from corruption to incorruption. What words can express the superiority of this celebration over the solemnities of the old law and the events commemorated on its holy days? Its excellence no one can adequately state. For we now celebrate the transition of our nature in Him, not just from the subterranean regions to the earth, but from the earth to the heaven of heavens, and to the throne above the heavens of Him Who rules over all.’”
—“On this day, the sacred and great PASCHA the holy Church commemorates the life-bearing RESURRECTION of our Lord and God and Savior JESUS CHRIST.”
