Volume I of The Collected Works

“The articles contained in this volume were written over a period of thirty years, for widely differing audiences; but they all relate, in one way or another, to this theme of the inner Kingdom. I speak here about the repentance or ‘change of mind’ with which we begin the journey inwards (chapter 3), about the sense of wonder and silence which mark our prayer as we explore the Kingdom that is within (chapters 4-7), about the companionship of the spiritual guide as we embark on our ascent (chapter 9), about the martyr and the fool in Christ as privileged witnesses to the Kingdom that is not of this world (chapters 8 and 10), about time as a sacrament of the eternity that is the mark of this inner Kingdom (chapter 11). And, since the inner Kingdom and the Kingdom of the Age to come are one and the same, I speak also of death, resurrection, and the possibility of a final and all-embracing reconciliation (chapters 2 and 12). On a somewhat different note, I have included at the beginning an account of how I came to enter the Orthodox Church.”
