“From the very beginning, down to the present, the Orthodox Church has made positive selective use of ancient Greek philosophy, particularly that of Socrates, Plato, Aristotle, and the Stoics. It has avoided a totally negative attitude towards Greek philosophy, the attitude observable in the writings of the early Latin Fathers Tertullian (c. 160-222), Arnobius (fl. 290) and Lactantius (c. 260-325). They rejected ancient Greek philosophy in toto, regarding it as ‘a heathen product, contact with which must be avoided.’ They denied any relationship between Athens and Jerusalem, between Hellenic culture (paideía) and Christianity.” —“INTRODUCTION”
